Whenever you have the ability to engage in social interactions, you should do this.
At the same time, there can still be a little bit of mental cloudiness hanging over the things you're doing. You might not be entirely sure about what others' intentions are, or where things are ultimately heading. This might leave you to daydream about the different possibilities. But really you're better off just dealing with the actual events as they happen. The more your mind starts to wander, the further you're actually going to get from the things you want.
