Buffalo's an odd place, unlike any other. For the most part, it's horribly mismanaged and the weather is terrible in the winter. We get the shaft from our state government like we're some two dollar woman of the night. But for all of the negative drawbacks (that force a ton of people away from here), we don't really have natural disasters and our food kills everybody else's.

This never becomes more evident when people who've lived here for a while come back to visit. This week, my buddies Scoot and Young John came home and we hung out for a while. You hear their stories of what life's like where they're living now, where they've been, the whole day to day stuff more than everything. And when someone comes home here, they always seem to have some mandatory Buffalo activities to take in, all of the things they're missing now that they're gone. John had to have authentic chicken finger subs and he had to visit the pub where we used to hang out every day. Scoot and John both had to have some Louie's Red Hots, with the best scum (like a Greek chili dog topping) on the planet.

I guess, for all the griping we do about this place, there are certain things we take for granted, like the food (I know lots of people that stock up on food here when they visit and bring it home with them), hockey, the bars, the fact you know someone most places you go. All of these things are comforting. Perhaps, since the Sun's in its "comforting" position, I'm coming to all these realizations. I'm sure you'll all have some similar realizations as we continue on during this cycle. Best of luck.
