What's really going on out there is this general diminishing of the trust people have with each other throughout this transit. Others can remember the one time you weren't particularly careful with one of their belongings and this can cause them to bring it up as they deny sharing something with you now.
In the end, this transit can be a bit of a pain in the ass, but it passes quickly enough and none of the effects of it are likely to cripple anyone's particular ability to do anything. Still, you should have some back up plans in place in case you were counting on borrowing something and have some excuses ready if someone feels you're being superficial or facetious towards them.
