My buddy Greg who used to bartend at the neighborhood pub always had a rule: No one was allowed to talk about religion, politics or Elton John (the Elton John portion was a joke of course). Political and religious discussions usually led to some type of disagreement, because everyone usually has their own views on those subjects and isnâÂÂt really receptive to someone telling them theyâÂÂre wrong.
Heading into the weekend, itâÂÂs probably a good idea for you to avoid talking about these things or any other issue that tends to be polarizing in nature. People are going to be stubborn when it comes to defending their position. Conversations that center on these topics will most often devolve into two (or more) people talking at someone and not listening to what someone else has to say. Needless to say, not a lot of good will come out of them.
Keep things light and things will stay friendly. Also remember that the more receptive you are to hearing what others have to say, the better things will usually turn out. Best of luck.
