Daily Horoscope for Gemini Summary

Technology is pretty incredible. The world changes more and more rapidly with every passing day, driven by technology. I was reading over a Dutch law document the other day, and having possession of a cell phone is essentially now considered a right. Old fogies of 29 like myself remember when there were no cell phones, and now avoiding the deprivation of their usage (for calls, not the other stuff) is factored into legislation.

I bring this up because of the whole WikiLeaks thing and the response to it by hackers (both those who have tried to disrupt its website, and those who have responded by attacking websites that have tried to harm WikiLeaks). I'm thinking to myself, wow, this is kind of pre-cursor to a new type of war – CyberWar. Sure, crap like this has gone on for years on a more minimal scale, but the media is more apt in this day and age to report on such things, and the scale of what's going on takes it to another level.

It makes me think though about the evolution of interaction of people, both cybernetically and in the real world. Way back in the day, wars were fought with troops and soldiers on common ground battlefields, and hell, the further back you go, the commanders actually used to be on the battlefield too, instead of comfy office buildings. Nowadays though, the civilized world increasingly sees war as inappropriate and not worth the loss of life or the expenditure involved. Back in the day, an invading country might try to take your land and subject you to slavery or some other undesirable fate. Nowadays, invasion potential is limited to the countries that don't have nukes. Back in the day, it was easy to point out an enemy and say "They're evil, they're savages!" because most people had no experience with them. Nowadays, you can find youtube video of people in other countries and see that in many ways, they're just like us.

So while people increasingly won't accept killing each other (which is good), that doesn't absolve that instinctive desire to mess with them if they piss you off. Enter Cyber-War. Much of it is done anonymously, so there's no identification with who's doing it (could be your next door neighbor for all you know). Instead of inflicting death, it's more of an infliction of hardship, a way of swinging the scales of balance. It's about ideals rather than our usual ways of labeling ourselves through nationality or whatever. National divides probably aren't going away any time soon, but the technological revolution could allow the manifestation of smaller groups to war amongst themselves as well.

Anyways, keep this all in mind as the chart is all about "shifts in power" and this could prove to be a very important time in how larger-scale disagreements are handled moving into the future. Best of luck.
