Daily Horoscope for Pisces Summary
Everyone is concerned about the world we live in. That's the best way to really describe the current energy. We all wake up in the morning, we see ourselves, we see the world, we see how it is and how we want it to be. And everyone has qualms and a reason to be pissed off on a routine basis because the world isn't how we want it. This world isn't perfect for me; it isn't perfect for you. It wasn't perfect for the people who got killed in Orlando over the weekend, and it wasn't perfect for the guy who killed them. It's not perfect for the people who try to spin that event to match their beliefs on guns, terrorism, Islam, gays, immigration, politics, and any of the other perspectives one could have on such a situation.
Because that's not the way the world works.
Two of my best friends each had kids on Thursday night. They're three days into this thing. These kids will each have a bunch of disappointments in their life - loads, things that will ultimately help define who they are as people. They will meet a large number of people, some they agree with, and some they don't agree with. They will gravitate towards some, and stay away from others. They will desire things they cannot have. They will develop romantic feelings for people that do not feel the same way. They will try to do things and fail. And all of this will suck.
Because that's how the world works.
And that's okay.
People grow through disappointment. People grow through failure. People grow through conflicting perspectives that others have. People grow when they lack the means to achieve their present goals. Life wasn't meant to be easy. All too often we look only at the finish line, and think how do I get there? We fixate on our goals. We lock in so much that we don't pay enough attention to the steps it takes to get there. Every disappointment, every failure, every difficult decision matters. These shape the journey. These form our experiences, and these influence our future decisions. These are an essential element of our learning process.
Our current energy is going to emphasize a very real problem a lot of people today have with everything I've just said. We fixate on the want - we don't fixate on the means to get there. We become so in love with what we want that we lose sight of whether it's even a good thing to want in the first place.
American political discourse is a prime example of this. We've murdered the middle ground. You are either for something or against it. We have fun discussions like:
When we have these fun "discussions", we don't talk to each other, we talk at each other. And I've railed on political polarity here before. It pretty much defecates on the last 500 years of guys trying to come up with enlightened thoughts. Being passionate about something doesn't make you right; in fact it probably means you're wrong. Everyone these days has to be right. Everyone needs the people around them to conform to their beliefs. When this doesn't happen, people are very quickly forgetting how to deal with it.
It's manifested in our presidential election, where somehow we now get to pick between the two least likeable people in all of American political history. All out of a fear of letting the other side win. And these guys will "discuss" the issues, but they won't really talk about the issues. Neither one of them has any interest in solving any problems. They're both narcissistic, power-hungry assholes. They don't care about us. Their parties don't care about us. It's like professional sports. We give a shit like our lives depend on it, because our personal identities have a stake in it, but they don't care about us, they care about playing the game as long as they can and taking away from it as much as they can.
Now that that's established, I care. As the entourage of short people that call me Uncle Bud continues to grow, I'd like to think the adults of this world can somehow not fuck the world up so royally that all of these little people have to grow up in some kind of post-Terminator 2 nuclear wasteland, or some arid climate-changed wasteland, or in an ongoing perpetual war over who wrote the better old book, or in a world where you can't go into a bar to get a good buzz without hearing Don't Stop Believing.
That's not going to happen without people talking to each other. That's not going to happen if people don't start caring about finding actual answers to America and the world's problems. It won't happen until we start finding ways to compromise with one another, and accepting that sometimes getting something that isn't perfect is better than getting nothing at all. And it won't happen unless we start thinking critically, defining things in real terms, and despite what we feel, making decisions based on the real evidence we compile. And if definitely won't happen if our collective response to every form of adversity is finding out who we should blame, because blame solves no problems and is an excuse to not deal with adverse situations.
With all that said, you, as an individual can wake up tomorrow living in fear of things you can't control, or empowered to try and make a difference. You have the power to bridge gaps with those who don't agree with you. You have the power to treat those who don't agree with you like an actual person. You have the power to ask questions about things and try to find the answers. You have the power to have an opinion on something and accept that maybe everyone doesn't need to universally share that opinion.
The world is not perfect, we are not perfect, and neither was meant to be. We are born, strengthened, refined, leave some sort of mark on the world and pass it on to those who follow us. The decisions you make individually might never reach everyone on the planet, but they will matter to someone. Never underestimate your impact, and at a time when there seems to be much uncertainty, your impact combined with the impact of many can lead to changes that make the world better than it is. Best of luck.
