But for what you're currently involved in, if it's going to perpetually be a chore, is it worth staying the course if you never enjoy it? Are you getting enough out of something to tolerate how much it irks you to do it?

Answering that question becomes more important here, especially as evidence can pile up that heading in a new direction can end up meaning more to you and being more enjoyable in the day-to-day. If the goal is to maximize a positive mental state, reduce stress and live your best life, it can mean leaving certain things behind, but they are probably things worth leaving behind anyway.
