Most people don't have a clear understanding of themselves or who they are. Most people are too busy (or afraid) to discover their real personality (along with their true wants and needs.) People purposefully construct a life whereby they avoid dealing with themselves because the "idea of themselves" is too painful.
Why is it too painful? Because you can't blame anybody else but yourself when it comes to how you feel or your lifestyle. You dictate that. You always have. And there's a point in time where society no longer allows you to blame your parents. You have to become accountable for your own happiness.
So the pressures on.
However, it's a lot easier to add complications to your life and blame those complications instead: a demanding job, a spouse, a mortgage, a car loan, a set of children, a tuition, etc. When people don't take the time out to "get to know themselves," they eventually begin to misunderstand themselves and misrepresent their wants and needs. And hence, those wants and needs are never met, which makes for a disgruntled and bitter misanthrope, a bad seed, and a horrible member of society.
Because you don't know who you are, you can't possibly know what you truly want.
This is a KEY reason why the world is in the state that it's in. It explains the sky-high divorce rate, the high school attrition rate, and the growing unemployment rate.
By you not knowing who you are, you're not empowered enough to understand how you fit into the world. You make bad decisions. You befriend people that you shouldn't be amicable with. You choose unfulfilling jobs. You marry the wrong spouse. You no longer have a compass leading you towards what you desire and what will truly satisfy you in this world.
However, there's a way to correct all this madness. And you can start right now.
Find a pen and a notebook and then ask yourself these questions every day for thirty days:
What would make you blissfully happy right now? What would set you free? What makes your heart flutter? What makes you warm and fuzzy inside? What is it? And what are you doing today to move you closer to that feeling?
Take ten minutes to WRITE DOWN THE ANSWER each and every day. Write down the answer as if you're reading the questions for the first time each day. Don't look at the previous day's answer until you've finished all thirty days. Then at the end of the thirty days, you'll start to see a pattern. You'll see the KEY thing that's been holding you back or keeping you from feeling complete. Keep doing this exercise and you'll eventually see a pattern. You'll start to isolate what it is that you're missing in life. You'll start to focus and hone in on that one thing that you've needed all along.
You'd be doing the world a favor if you follow this exercise.
