Daily Horoscope for Taurus Summary

Well, according to this fun press release, ABC is canning All My Children and One Life To Live to essentially rip off other daytime programming, based on food and fitness. Awesome. Way to go.

Now I realize I am a grown-ass man, but I kind of grew up on Days of Our Lives and One Life to Live. My mom still watches everyday and I watch with her every once in a while. Is this a crushing blow for me, no not really, I'm working most of the time these shows are on. But like I said, my mom watches everyday, and when I come home, she usually hits me with the breakdown of what's going on. It's like a crazy family we can talk about but luckily don't have to interact with. So this sucks a ton for her, and for the millions out there (including quite a few of you folks) that watch these shows. And I'll miss it a little inside as well.

Something like this merely furthers the slow decay of creativity in our media, which I guess is what saddens me more. There aren't enough people writing stories. You look at TV, and half of it is "reality" TV, which can be amusing, but often lacks substance, and rarely reflects how common folks act in the real world. You look at the "creative" shows on TV, and invariably they revolve around cops and investigative work, hospitals, or some type of variant on the family structure. Remember how everyone loved Lost? Maybe it was because it was about strangers on an island (a novel concept). Film has to a large extent resorted to rehashing old concepts (Fast Five, Scream 4?), or remaking old films themselves. It's not an entirely barren landscape of creativity, but you usually have to dig a little deeper than you did in the past.

I suppose it's trending in the wrong direction in all, which is a little worrisome. No one should sit around watching TV or movies all day, but the escape is nice. Increasingly we are falling into a void however where our fantasy and reality worlds are melding together. Reality TV is indicative of this. Half of the news on TV is indicative of this; striving to be outlandish and cluttered with opinion rather than based on any factual reporting. In a day where every man has his soap box, the ones who shout the loudest and provide the most emotionally charged rhetoric are the ones who are "successful".

Anyways, a salute to our readers out there who still fly the banner of creativity. There is a time for facts, but there's also a time for fantasy as well. Just remember that things always seem to become more complicated when the line between them becomes blurred. Best of luck.
