Rest in Peace Chuck Berry...
When we were kids, my brother Kenny and I would go out and shovel driveways when it snowed to earn some dough... We'd save it up to buy records and things... One winter we bought tickets to see Chuck Berry in concert... The night of the show, there was a big storm with deep snow... We were sure the show would be canceled, but we decided to take the bus downtown anyway as we were always up for adventures...
When we got there, we were shocked to find that the theatre was all lit up and the show was on... Inside, there wasn't enough people to fill the first two rows... On stage, Chuck Berry said, he got into town before the storm, and as long as he was here, he was going to play and get paid for it... hehe... One of the greatest shows I've ever seen... We would yell out... Hey Chuck, play Tulane... He'd yell back "I already did" and we yelled "Play it again"... He said "OK" and did... hehe... Two hours of total magic.
Thinking back, I couldn't have been much more than 11 or 12 years old... Things have changed... Now-days, if a parent let their kids take bus to night concert on their own, they'd probably be jailed... But we did things like that all the time... Hell, we'd take the bus with our friends and cross the border into Canada to go to the beach & amusement parks and nobody thought anything of it... Kids were street smart back then... Things have changed!!
