Daily Horoscope for Virgo Summary

The nature of thought has been weighing on my mind lately. In the wake of the Charleston shooting, a lot has been said by people. One of the articles I read this week on the Psychology Today was about anti-intellectualism, and it got me to thinking. This is kind of the age of increasing instant gratification (and to some off-shoot, entitlement). I think about the pre-internet days of my youth when things were simpler. Then I thought about my teens, when the internet boom sort of happened, and everyone was like “Yay! Awesome”. But at its onset, things were imperfect. So as a teenager, I used the internet for what a large majority of the male population uses the internet for – to look at boobs (if you take offense, just replace the word “boobs” with “cat pictures” or whatever else you want to envision). However, you could only view images back in 1998 and connection speeds sucked, so if you wanted to load a picture on your screen, you sat there and waited. And waited. Oh there’s the forehead. Three minutes go by – “I see a neck!”. By the time the picture finally loaded up, you wanted to high-five the universe… for roughly three seconds until you wanted to relive the process with another picture.

As time has proceeded onwards towards 2015, we became increasingly intolerant with the process of waiting, and as time has progressed, we’ve become more spoiled. First we got to where the images loaded up almost instantly. Then someone came out with video. Then someone figured out ways to show longer than 20 second videos. Then someone said “Wait we can put videos that are not porn on the internet and people will watch those too?”, so a lot of other websites came out with videos of other stuff. But the videos were choppy and took as long to load as the old pictures did. So they made that better and increased transfer speeds. Soon you could watch anything, movies, documentaries, sports, advertisements, live music, “cat pictures”, on your computer. But that wasn’t awesome enough, hell no, because first it’s next to impossible to strap a desktop to your back and carry it around with you everywhere, and laptops became too cumbersome. So they found a way to put all of that shit on your phone! So now people have all of this crap literally in their pocket wherever they go. Want to check the score of the game at your kid’s dance recital? Done. Want to watch your favorite TV show at the gym? Mission accomplished. It’s all there for you!

Now, quick digression: think about the last time you watched a video, and it buffered at some point. You probably get pissed, right?

The nature of expectation has been transformed so much in recent past. On one hand, you might try to diminish it by saying “that’s just the internet, it doesn’t impact other things I do”. But the internet, at least to us in the industrialized world, has become omnipresent. Everything that isn’t networked is probably going to be at some point. The things we have to think about will change – much of the need for many of these thought will disappear. At some point in the future, someone will probably invent a microwave that reads the UPC on a TV dinner when you put it inside and will preload the time and auto-start when the door closes. We really are striving to shave seconds off of processes that can’t be measured in whole minutes.

So that’s probably where we’re heading. Which brings me back to the original train of thought from today’s scope (which ties in to the current Mercury-Neptune energy) – what happens when we become so impulsive that rational thought processes become diminished. I think we’re starting to see a state where thought process is accelerating. But I don’t mean we’re computing things faster; I mean I think we’re trying to get thinking over as quickly as possible. I think this tips the “emotion vs. rational response” too much towards the side of emotion. Emotions are good. Making all decisions and communication based on first emotional impulse is not good.

Think of it this way: I’m a smart man, and other people will say I’m a smart man as well (so you don’t think I’m blowing smoke up my own ass). However, I think of a lot of stupid stuff. Some of the things I think in my mind are really, really dumb. But I don’t let them out into the open – inside my mind is a place where inner Bud says, “Dude, don’t say that, it’s idiotic.” We all have this place inside of our minds. However, when we react in knee-jerk ways, which, as someone who regrettably continues to read internet comments sections and Facebook debates, bad things happen. Dumb things are said. Dumb things will be said from now until there stop being people, but we’ve always had a decent filter in place to get rid of most of them. Now I wonder that if there’s an acceleration of thought process, if we’re removing the filter along the way.

Anyways, to end on an astrological note, this is kind of where we are today. Mercury is the inner thought process trying to make rational sense of everything, but it’s impeded by Neptune’s wild thoughts, dreaming and assuming everything should go our way. And the Sun and Mars is the surge of emotion pulling the trigger before bothering to aim at the target. So long story not short, take a minute to think things over before responding to others, and fully engage your filter, or you will be part of the problem instead of part of the solution. Best of luck.

The Daily Horoscope for Virgo

Your relationships can drift to the forefront of your mind, though they might not drift to the forefront of your life. This disconnect can be a bit disconcerting as you’re going to be looking for more social interaction. It will help greatly if you avoid putting too much urgency into what you’re currently doing. When you start looking for immediate results, that’s when you’re going to start getting into trouble.
