By this time you’re used to having a boulder jammed in your path every time you step out onto the soil. And you grin and bear it! If you’re used to a nasty storm front coming in, every time you plan a golf tournament, you cope. If you’re used to an earthquake pummeling through your neighborhood, right after you’ve remodeled, then you need to move—seriously. You wouldn’t catch me building a house on a major fault line.

Well, the big deal is if you’re brave enough to keep trying, keep failing, and keep trying again, then you will ultimately succeed. Keep your eye on the prize. That’s the hidden message with this (or any other) T-square: “Never give up.” Why ‘never give up.’ Because the cold hard fact is, most people give up. Look at your peers, colleagues, friends, and family who talked about building something or making something or creating something or doing something and never finished it. It’s because they’re not in it to win it. They never wanted it in the first place.

So the moral is, if you have some personal projects you’ve been working on steadily for the past year or so (or decade or so) and a massive standstill has taken effect and brought all work to a dead halt, you need to dust off your hands and get back into the workshop.

Find a good radio station, put on some tunes, and get into the zone. Keep toiling away. Life does not give handouts. If you do a profile on all the millionaires, CEO, heads of state,and big-time leading talk show hosts (eh-hem, yes, I’m referring to you, Oprah) they had massive obstacles thrown in their way (and some of them were even born with a T-sqaure in their chart.) This T-square is a reminder that “Life ain’t easy.” Get that through your noggin’! In fact, bathe in that knowledge. Once you get that concept, then you’re golden.

So here is your task for today. Find an old t-shirt, get a permanent marker, and write in big bold, “Life ain’t easy, but I’m one of the lucky ones that knows it,” and wear it whenever you’re working on one of those painstaking labors of love. And promise yourself that you won’t stop until you’re finished. Get it?
